Yoga Nidra is a method, of tantric origin, developed by Swami Satyananda Saraswati, which induces physical, mental and emotional relaxation. This method promotes spiritual development and is compared to psychic sleep, where there is deep relaxation, but there is awareness.
Regardless of his will, the whole human being develops tensions in his daily life, which accumulate in different layers of the being: muscular, emotional and mental. These tensions are partly responsible for the unhappiness created with the modern lifestyle:
The muscular tension is related to the physical body and involves the nervous system and the endocrine. Can be easily removed by deep relaxation while practicing Yoga Nidra
Emotional tension is linked to the duality of life’s opposites: cold / heat, night / day, love / hate, wealth / poverty, and in situations where feelings are expressed weakly or repressed. This type of tension is not removed by sleep, but Yoga Nidra reassures the emotional structure of the mind
Mental tension results from excessive mental activity and can spread to the physical body, affecting behavior and social reactions. During the session, the practitioner comes into contact with the subconscious and unconscious mind, restoring harmony and releasing this kind of tension
This practice induces positive changes in sleep patterns and a deep relaxation session with this method is equivalent to 4 normal hours of sleep.
In addition to this relaxation, it is also possible to positively reshape the whole personality, since the samskaras (impressions), habits, tendencies and patterns of behavior are transmuted.
With practice, psychosomatic imbalance is spontaneously restored due to the release of energetic blocks in the brain. This energy is redirected for treatment and rejuvenation of tissues, glands and organs.
Being mapped in the human brain throughout the physical body, it is possible during a session of Yoga Nidra to go beyond the external senses, touching the unconscious and awakening certain psychic abilities that are innate in the human being.
In a Yoga Nidra session, the practitioner only needs to lie down and listen. Concentration is not necessary as it blocks the energetic flow of consciousness and prevents access to its deeper dimensions.
Even when sleeping or dreaming, the instructions received during the session will work in the subconscious mind.
Yoga Nidra is recommended to anyone except people with schizophrenia or psychoses, or with manic-depression.
In case you want to use Yoga-Nidra to solve a specific problem or help in curing a disease, the sessions should be personalized.
